my cat named sushi
i acquired sushi in 2017. it was raining for multiple days and she kept hanging around our apartment, under the awning to keep out of the rain. after a few days of this i decided to just leave the door open and see if she would come in. she did, of course, and after checking with the neighbors to see if she belonged to anyone- we decided to keep her!!
unfortunately, after leaving an abusive relationship, i had to let sushi go for a bit. she moved to virginia with my ex. but about a year ago she found her way back to us and me + my seven year old are happier than ever to have her back with us!!! truly a blessing.
sushi's name is inspired by this book, yoko by rosemary wells. my mom read this book to me as a kid (and now i read it to my seven year old). i always really admired the illustrations of all the different foods and the story is so adorable!!
the story is about a cat named yoko who gets made fun of by her classmates for eating sushi at lunch. her teacher hatches a plan- international food day at lunch, in hopes that the students will learn something about embracing other cultures, trying new things, and celebrating what makes us all different!!
